Examination: Prevention and Detection of Problems
Warning signs of some dental conditions may be so subtle that only a dentist can identify them.
During your regular visit, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth and check for signs of tooth decay. You'll also be evaluated for risk factors associated with illnesses like bone loss and periodontal disease. This way potential problems can be identified in their early stages while they are easily treatable.
Your dentist will also check your bite and may administer x-rays or recommend other diagnostic measures.
Digital Radiographs
Radiographs are invaluable in the diagnosis of dental problems. Dental x-rays are recommended every 2 years to detect any dental disease occurring in the teeth and surrounding bone that cannot be detected by the naked eye.
Scale & Clean: Removal of Plaque/Tartar Build-up
While you may be very diligent in your dental care, dental plaque and tartar can accumulate, especially along the gum line and hard to reach areas. Tartar can cause chronic gum inflammation, also called gingivitis, which can lead to serious gum disease, like periodontitis & tooth loss. Professional cleaning is essential for good oral health.
During your visit, your teeth will be gently and professionally cleaned. Your dental team will meticulously remove hard-to-reach plaque and tartar. At this time, you may be given tips on how to improve your at-home care routine.
Thorough teeth cleaning not only helps improve the health of your teeth and gums. It also makes them look great! A good cleaning can actually have a whitening effect on your smile. Your clean will leave you looking and feeling great!
Oral hygiene Instruction
You dentist will work to devise an oral hygiene regime to suit your individual needs, giving you advice on how to thoroughly remove the plaque and keep your gums healthy for life.
Dental Fissure Sealants
Fissure sealants are one of the best ways of preventing tooth decay. A fissure sealant is a protective tooth coloured hard resin coating that is bonded in to the groove of teeth to stop decay from forming in these grooves.
It is a totally painless procedure and sealants are very durable. Pit & fissure sealants are suitable from around the age of six years or older.

Your dentist may first apply a colored dye onto your teeth to reveal any plaque and biofilm present in your mouth. (biofilm is a colony of bacteria that can cause gum disease and compromise your body’s immune defenses).
Then the dentist will use the airflow to remove the plaque. This is a big step in preventing gum disease and periodontitis as well as removing stains.
If you have hard calculus, we may also need to use an ultrasonic on your teeth.
